First Monday With the New Schedule
morgothan | 13 11 2007So yesterday was the first day of my new Monday schedule. As I said in the last post. I started taking Judo. So my Mondays are one and half hours at the kung fu school, and one and a half hours at the Judo School. It was not as difficult as I imagined it could be.
I arrived at the Kung Fu school, warmed up, ran through all four Hua Chuans. then spent the rest of the class working on Umbrella. A good workout, but since I was not sure what Judo was going to be, I didn’t want to over do anything. Judo was interesting. First thing we did was “the maze”. The maze consists of six sets of jumping squats, two set of dragging you body by your arms, two sets of pulling your body down the mat by your heals, and two sets of pulling you body up the mat by your heals. A good leg and ab workout. I was told that my legs where going to be really soar the next couple of days, and they may be, but with all my shaolin leg work I will be very surprised if they are really soar. We worked on standing falls, and some ground work. The most difficult transition I am having to make is in Judo we stand with our fingers pointing to the opponent, and in Shaolin we stand with them pointing up, or fisted. So every time I stand up, I start with my hands fisted change to open handed palm strikes, then go fingers forward. It will be a while before I naturally go with my fingers pointed at the opponent. As for the ground work we did, We continued to work on Kesa Gatame(Scarf Hold), and its combinations, as well as transitioning into Mune Gatame(Chest Hold), and its combinations. It was actually really interesting stuff.
