Apperently you need to practice, who knew?

morgothan | 15 11 2007

I have a bit of a rude awakening yesterday. I tried to do what I learned last week in Hsing Yi(Ja Sil), and found that I could not recall it well enough to do. Furthermore, when it came time for Pa Kua we did the 8 palm changes, and the first half of the continues form. I found them both to be very difficult to do. Not physically, just mentally. I was really just following the person in front of me, not doing them on my own. I need to work on my internals more. I should be practicing them at home, not just shaolin. These two failures on my part made me a little frustrated at myself, but nothing like what happened in shaolin. Wednesdays class is just a beginner class. Attendance is usually small, so it tends to be a fine tuning class. Who ever shows up gets personal attention, and we work on what ever they need to work on. However, no one showed up for class. So class was just me, and Bill, who is an intermediate student bordering on getting into the advanced class. We decided that we need some work on Chin Na. Since he does not know 4 or 6 we start with Chin Na 1. The longest of all 6. This was a mistake.

It took about half an hour of bumbling through the form to get it correct. It is very frustrating to work on something like Chin Na and forget the moves, or do something wrong. What makes it even more so, is since I am where I am in my training, I can usually figure something out that works. This sometimes is great because I figure out the correct thing to do. Other times I figure out the correct thing to do, but with the wrong feet, or something completely wrong. This was Chin Na 1. A collection of I know what comes next, but how do I get there, Ok well Ill do this. Then go for the next couple of moves, and wait you doing this lock to the wrong arm, something isnt right. Once we finally got it down correct we moved onto Chin Na 2, and 3. Two went by pretty good, but 3 was perfect. Since I did 4 and 6 for my last test, I am pretty confident that they are ok, and 5 I can do in my sleep, so I dont need to worry about that. Its just 1. Apparently I need to spend more time doing Chin Na 1 with people, as it is starting to fade away.

So things that I need to do,
Chin Na 1, Pa Kua everything, and Hsing Yi Ja sill.
