Tan Toi Run Down
morgothan | 10 12 2007On Saturday myself and another advanced student decided to break down every single movement in Tan Toi(Springing Leg), and find an application drill for them. After doing this I really think this is something I want to continue to do. When ever I teach a from from now on I want to give an application for each move as we do them, and drill the moves with the class. I think that will help make the class more entertaining, and interactive. Going through springing leg, its amazing how much advanced material is in that simple form. There are some really nice throws and fighting techniques.
Take Line 12, the last line in the form. Start of with a back fist, then a kick, then a pull to a low tiger, then do the same thing on the other side(back fist, kick low tiger). Simple enough, but if you actually do it to a person it works beautifully. They punch, you back fist and block the strike, you kick to the groin to get there attention. Pull them down by going to a low tiger, and rolling your forearm into the crook of there elbow. This drags them down to the ground in front of you. Turn to the bow and arrow and back fist them in the face, leaving you arm by the side of there head. Kick them in the chest as they should be hunched forward. Then turn to a high tiger, and instead of pulling down at there arm, pull there head back, and bring there back arm in front of you. This will throw them over your extended leg, and leave you in a much stronger position. All in All a really nice technique, taken directly from form.
