A Somewhat Successful Return
morgothan | 29 05 2008Hsing Yi last night was a refresher on two man material. Which is nice since I have not done any of the Hsing Yi two man work since I left. First was five elements two man. I ran through that as if I had been doing it everyday since I left. I was actually impressed by how much muscle memory I had. We then went to An Shen Pao(12 animal 2 man). This one required a little more work. I was unable to jump right into it, but after one or two false starts I was able to run through the whole thing. Hopefully next week we will do some of the single man forms and see if I can’t get through them.
Pa kua was also nice, as we went through all the palm changes. I needed work on them before I stopped coming to class, so to say that I breezed through them would be a lie. Pa Kua still eludes me though. It is by far the prettiest style we teach, it is also one of the ones that we drill application of the most, but I just don’t see them. Even what we where working on last night, a single palm change take down, just didn’t get there for me. To me it was just parry block thrust from Shaolin. Strait and linear, not circular and flowing, as it should be in Pa Kua. I need to spend more time with the system to get an idea for what it is really trying to do.
